Choir

The Männerchor EMCB e.V. was founded on January 8, 1973 by a small group of retired choirboys together with choir director Fritz Rothschuh. The purpose of the association was and is to bring together former Munich choirboys to sing in a male choir and to cherish common youth memories. In the past decades, the active members have performed together with the Munich Chorbuben at numerous concerts as well as on radio and television recordings. Apart from Germany, they have been actively involved in concert tours to the USA, Canada and the former Soviet Union. Even today, individual members of the male choir make themselves available to the Munich Chorbuben and Munich Chorbädchen as singers for various concert events. They are an important enrichment at the musical performances during the autumn concerts as well as at the annual festive Christmas concert of the Munich Boys Choir and Girls Choir.

The members come together once a week for choir rehearsal. Thus, due to sometimes long journeys, as many human as musical qualities are required. In addition to the musical successes, club excursions to the near and far surroundings of Munich are undertaken to cultivate personal contacts. The annual Christmas party as well as occasional club evenings additionally promote the contacts among each other. Activities of this kind also give passive members the opportunity to participate in the choir's activities. The speciality of this male choir is its balanced structure. The average age of the singers is probably one of the youngest male choirs in Germany. Due to the common past with the Munich Boys Choir, however, there is also a great similarity of interest across the generations.

From 1988 to 2007 the musical direction of the men's choir was in the hands of Manfred Taitsch, himself a former choir boy and for many years a member of the choir direction team of the Munich Boys Choir and Girls Choir. He succeeded in expanding the male choir from 12 to 26 active singers at that time. The repertoire of the choir has also become much more extensive as a result. All the more the sudden and much too early death of Manfred Taitsch on November 4, 2007 was a great shock for everyone.

Since the beginning of 2008, the musical direction of the male choir of former Munich Boys Choir has been in the hands of Benjamin Schiefer, who also began his musical career in the ranks of the Munich Boys Choir.
